Ambassador Dr. Katharina Stasch has fifteen years of experience in international and national politics. Prior to becoming Permanent Representative of Germany to the UN in Geneva, she served as Chief of Staff and Head of the Minister’s Office of Foreign Minister Heiko Maas at the Federal Foreign Ministry as well as previously at the Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection. Important actions during her time at the Ministry of Justice include the Law on Equal Rights of Women (quotas) and combating hate speech. At the Foreign Ministry she oversaw important projects, such as Germany‘s Membership in the UN Security Council, the German EU Council Presidency and the shaping of the Alliance of Multilateralism.

In 2022, Ambassador Dr. Stasch served as Vice-President of the Human Rights Council and from 2022-2023 as Chair of the Government Group in the International Labour Organization (ILO). From October 2023 to October 2024 she was Chair of the UNHCR Executive Committee. Currently, Ambassador Dr. Stasch serves as Chair of the IOM Council Bureau.
