Functions of the Permanent Representation to the Disarmament Conference

The Federal Republic of Germany has been a member to the Conference on Disarmament (CD) since 1974. From that time on, the Permanent Representation has represented the German positions in this body and furthermore within the First Committee of the UN General Assembly in New York.

The Permanent Representation also represents Germany at Geneva meetings of experts and State Parties to international disarmament agreements and is engaged in an intensive dialogue with non-governmental organizations and the civil society.

The Ottawa Convention of 1999 bans the production, stockpiling, use and transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines.

Arms Trade Treaty (ATT)

In order to organize the international arms trade in a transparent and responsible way and furthermore prevent illegal flow of arms and ammunition, the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) was developed and put into force in 2014.

Biological Weapons Convention (BWC)

1975 the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production and Stockpiling of Bacteriological and Toxin Weapons entered into force. This has been the first treaty to prohibit a whole category of weapons.

Convention on Cluster Munition (CCM)

The Convention on Cluster Munitions, also known as the Oslo Convention, entered into force on 1 August 2010 and prohibits the use, development, production, purchase, stockpiling, retention and transfer of such weaponry.
