Ambassador Dr. Katharina Stasch has fifteen years of experience in international and national politics. Nominated Permanent Representative of Germany to the UN in Geneva in August 2021, she is currently Chair of the UNHCR Executive Committee and Chair of the IOM Council Bureau. Ambassador Dr. Stasch served as Vice-President of the Human Rights Council in 2022, from 2022-2023 as Chair of the Government Group in the International Labour Organization (ILO). Prior to becoming Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, she served as Chief of Staff and Head of the Minister’s Office of Foreign Minister Heiko Maas at the Federal Foreign Ministry as well as at the Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection. Important projects during this time include the shaping of the Alliance of Multilateralism, Germany‘s Membership in the UN Security Council, the Law on Equal Rights of Women (quotas) and combating hate speech. Dr. Ambassador Stasch holds a Ph. D. in law.
